In short

Ambressa casts Chinese-Malaysian commercial models in Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia. Most speak Mandarin and English, with Cantonese or Hokkien cast to the brief, and we confirm on-camera delivery with a self-tape before booking. A shortlist of models confirmed available for your dates usually arrives within 24 hours, and Chinese New Year campaigns should be briefed as soon as they are planned.

Which face

Chinese-Malaysian, pan-Asian, or both

Most briefs say "Chinese". The useful question is who the campaign is talking to, because that decides the face long before it decides the name.

Chinese-Malaysian for a Malaysian audience

A campaign aimed at Chinese Malaysians in the Klang Valley, Penang or Johor usually needs a face the audience reads as one of their own: the accent, the styling and the small details that tell a Malaysian viewer the work was made here. That recognition is what the brand is paying for, and it is the first thing lost when a cast is assembled from somewhere else.

Pan-Asian when one shoot runs in several markets

If the same images will run in Malaysia, Singapore and the rest of the region, a pan-Asian or mixed-heritage cast buys reach across markets at the cost of local specificity. We say which way a brief leans before we cast it, and some campaigns deliberately use both in one frame.

Based in Malaysia, cast for Southeast Asia

The models we book live and work in Malaysia, and we cast for campaigns running in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. China is not a market we serve: a Mandarin-speaking model is a language requirement for an audience here, not a China campaign.

Language on set

Mandarin, Cantonese or Hokkien on set

Our Chinese-Malaysian models speak Mandarin and English as a rule, so a bilingual script is the default rather than a special request. Cantonese or Hokkien depend on who the campaign is for and where it runs: put them in the brief, because they change the shortlist more than the look does.

01

Mandarin

The default for national campaigns, education, finance and most digital content aimed at Chinese-speaking Malaysians. Say whether the script needs native delivery or a confident second language.

02

Cantonese

Widely spoken in Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh, and common in F&B, property and anything with an everyday local tone. A Cantonese line delivered by a non-speaker is noticed straight away.

03

Hokkien

Strong in Penang and parts of the north and Klang. Useful for regional F&B and community campaigns where the dialect is part of the message.

04

English, with a Chinese-Malaysian cast

Plenty of premium and regional briefs run in English. Then the look and styling carry the audience and the language requirement drops away, which widens the pool.

Spoken on camera and simply understood are two different requirements. Name the one you need, and we confirm it with a self-tape before the booking.

Brief categories

What Chinese-Malaysian casts are booked for

01

Beauty and skincare

Close-up work where skin, hair and a natural expression decide the booking. Usage and exclusivity matter here more than anywhere.

02

Property and home

Couples, families and young professionals in show units and lifestyle scenes. Family casting needs more lead time.

03

Banking, insurance and wealth

Mature and family casting, often with Mandarin or Cantonese dialogue. Faces over forty are scarcer on every roster, so brief early.

04

F&B and FMCG

Everyday, local and warm. Dialect often matters, and so does how natural someone looks eating on camera.

05

Jewellery and gold

Hands, neck and close-ups, with festive peaks around Chinese New Year and weddings.

06

Retail and e-commerce

Volume shoots where sample size decides the shortlist almost on its own. Say the sizes in the brief.

Calendar

Chinese New Year casting closes before the year ends

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February. Campaigns for it are shot well before the holiday, and most brands in beauty, F&B, finance and retail cast in the same weeks, so the most requested faces are optioned first. Send the brief when the campaign is planned, not when the shoot date is fixed. Mid-Autumn works the same way on a smaller scale.

Questions about Chinese-Malaysian models

How do I hire a Chinese model in Malaysia?

Send the dates, location, type of work, language on set and where the images will run, on WhatsApp or by email. You get a shortlist of Chinese-Malaysian models confirmed available for those dates, usually within 24 hours, and seeing it costs nothing.

Can the model speak Mandarin or Cantonese on camera?

Yes. Our Chinese-Malaysian models speak Mandarin and English as a rule, so most scripts can run in either. For Cantonese or Hokkien, say so in the brief, and for speaking roles we confirm delivery with a short self-tape against your lines before the booking.

Do you cast Chinese models for Chinese New Year campaigns?

Yes, and it is the busiest casting window of the year for this segment. Chinese New Year 2027 is on 6 February; brief as soon as the campaign is planned so the faces you want are still free.

Chinese-Malaysian or pan-Asian: which do I need?

If the campaign speaks to Chinese Malaysians, cast Chinese-Malaysian. If the same images run across several Southeast Asian markets, pan-Asian buys reach at the cost of local recognition. Tell us where it runs and we will recommend one before casting.

Are the models based in Malaysia?

Yes, mostly in the Klang Valley. We cast for shoots anywhere in Malaysia, and travel and accommodation are quoted with the booking when a shoot is outside the model's home city.

Do you cast for campaigns in China?

No. We cast for campaigns running in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Chinese-Malaysian casting here means an audience and a language inside the region, not the China market.

How much does a Chinese model cost in Malaysia?

It depends on the shoot and the usage, so we quote against a brief rather than publish a price list. The day rate covers time on set; where the images run, in which countries and for how long are priced on top and often move the total more than the day rate does.

Can you cast Chinese-Malaysian families or mature models?

Yes. Families are cast for chemistry as much as looks, and models over forty are scarcer than twenty-five-year-olds on any roster, so both need more lead time. Send these briefs earlier than you think you need to.

Can the same model also post about the campaign?

Sometimes, and it is a separate agreement. A model gives you time on set and the right to use the images; posting to their own audience is creator work with its own terms. If you need both, say so in the brief.

Tell us the look, the language and the dates.

We come back with Chinese-Malaysian models who are actually free, with the usage already scoped.
